A young man in a denim shirt and gray pants sitting on a chair, leaning forward with hands clasped, looking directly at the camera, with a camera on the floor in front of him.

When I was 9 years old, I saved up enough money to buy my first camera and have never looked back.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with a major in Screen Arts and Cultures, I moved to Austin where I worked on network television (Shipping Wars, Naked and Afraid) and created, shot, and produced the Webby Award-winning It’s Okay To Be Smart before heading east to Washington, D.C. for a job at National Geographic.

From there I traveled to over 50 countries and 6 continents, camera in tow, documenting the most remarkable people, places, causes, cultures and conflicts along the way. It was by happenstance that I came back to Michigan, mid-winter, in 2025—first intended as a pit stop until I realized ya know? I kind of like it here.

And thus, Mitten State Photography was born, and here we are.

Life is electric.

Let’s capture it.
